Kingswood Sports CIO created to establish Kingswood as a sporting hub within Hull

Local football club and rugby league club become founding members of the Kingswood Sports CIO, promising an innovative approach to grass roots sports.

Local community sports clubs Kingswood United (Football) and Kingswood Knights (Rugby League) are joining forces to empower the community to positively change the lives of young people around the HU7 postcode areas, developing and uniting the local community through sport. The two clubs will come together to form the foundations of the Kingswood Sports CIO, supported by a board of trustees. The goal for the organisation is to create a network of sporting clubs, united under a single vision for effective community development.

The organisation will work to enhance the opportunities within the community through its sports, well-being activities, and wider support where possible. With success being the promise of working with children, young people and adults to assist in improving their physical and mental health. This ambition will assist in supporting the community in continually raising aspirations for its participants and should facilitate potential future opportunities within a safe and supportive environment.

Kingswood Sports CIO development and facilities manager, Paul Richardson, explains that “the charity has been created to take on board the needs of the community and support these fantastic grassroots organisations in providing an environment that allows its participants to enjoy playing their chosen sport in a fun, safe and welcoming environment. Already within the community we’ve been active in local schools supporting teachers in helping children engage with sport and using sport as a tool for mental wellbeing and breaking down barriers. We have our very own First Aid (including Mental Health First Aid) Instructor, who is also advertising courses within our community. Bringing clubs together in large numbers ensures voices are heard and funding avenues are accessible and invested to meet the demands of more organisations. Sharing these facilities ensures they become sustainable for the future and maximises their access for all to enjoy. We have a fantastic board of trustees with excellent expertise across all levels of business which is key to achieving the aims of the charity. Wheels are already in motion with key sites identified for improvement with Hull City Council and local Land owners.”

The organisation has started work with Football and Rugby League but intends to explore relationships with clubs across a variety of sports, establishing Kingswood as a sporting hub within the city.
